The roof determines highly the outer appearance of a building. The roof form is being chosen consciously by the planner. The materials are carefully selected, for that they match the character of the house and for that they blend harmoniously in with the colour concept. Rainwater gutters and down pipes are additional house design elements. Good architecture is recognized by the consequence of the planning, in which every detail has been selected and shaped deliberately. Rainwater gutters and down pipes don`t necessarily have to be made from galvanised steel or copper. Meanwhile new attractive products made from PVC are available, e.g. the roof drainage systems from Protektor. The modern colours and the ageing stability of those systems are an interesting alternative for the planners. On a housing estate in the proximity of Berlin an interesting colour contrast between white rainwater gutters, blue roof boarding and red tiles create a Nordic flair.
