Highly professional business buildings

In an age of globalisation companies have to become ever more flexible. Industries grow and change at breakneck speed. This has an impact on the construction of business buildings. Offices, production and storage buildings are ever more frequently extended, adapted or change use completely. The most economic and suitable form of building in the industrial sector is no longer the classic form of office building, but rather multi-purpose hall-style buildings in which free-form offices and social areas are inserted using the EDIFICIO steel lightweight construction system.

And Avancis GmbH who has a very modern solar module production unit in Torgau in Saxony decided to opt for this kind of solution for their new construction. This fast-growing photovoltaic company is expanding its capacity in Torgau by adding a second factory, which is supposed to start production as soon as the start of 2012. This is creating over 200 new jobs at this location.

The new buildings for the solar factory also included large-scale offices, changing rooms and social areas. For the extension, the central hallway was erected first within a steel frame as a self-supporting tunnel system for the room-within-a-room construction approach. The ceilings for the tunnel system are load-bearing and can be walked on for maintenance purposes. This construction was carried out using the EDIFICIO steel lightweight construction system from PROTEKTOR.

The office and social areas open off the hallway area to the right and left. They are closed off above by a ceiling constructed from wide span supports, CD profiles and planks made of 2 x 12.5 mm GKF. For this two maxi wide span supports were erected parallel to the hallway. They are hung from the steel supports at intervals of 3.45 and 3.60 m using threaded rods. The suspended height in the centre was 2.25 m. At the sides the ceiling is connected to the hallway system and the outside walls.

More than 200 continuous meters of the hallway system with rooms off each side were created in this way. "The technical support provided by the manufacturer PROTEKTOR is particularly important in such an ambitious building project, so that an optimal solution can be found jointly. ", said the project supervisor Torsten Todt from the building contractor company Heinrich Schmid GmbH. "We prepared this task carefully and were able to erect it all in just five weeks of work."

This example from Torgau of course demonstrates only some of the construction options offered by EDIFICIO. Its range of uses stretches from room-within-a-room systems to stacking, where for load-bearing reasons only the lightweight construction system can be applied, to building extensions, additions or temporary buildings.
